Steering the craft ursula le guin5/28/2023 The collection begins with the author’s mystification over a questionnaire from Harvard, on the occasion of the 60th reunion of the graduating class of 1951. In an entertaining collection of more than 40 posts written from 2010 to 2015, she offers opinions on a wide range of topics: politics, age and youth, confounding questions from readers, creativity, public and private expressions of anger, a splendid opera by Philip Glass, the serene ritual of breakfast in Vienna, and, most charmingly, her cat. Inspired by blogs that José Saramago wrote when he was in his 80s, the prolific, multiple award-winning Le Guin ( Words Are My Matter: Writing About Life and Books, 2000-2015, with a Journal of a Writer’s Week, 2016, etc.) became a blogger herself. Spirited, wry reflections on aging, literature, and America’s moral life.

Artificial condition book5/28/2023 I’m using “they” pronouns, although there’s no stated preference and they might even identify as an “it”, especially earlier in the series. Now Murderbot has a hacked governor module, free-will, and an addiction to serial entertainments.Ī couple notes: Murderbot is a genderless construct. Prior to the events of the series, something went horribly wrong and Murderbot killed the people they were contracted to protect. Murderbot is a SecUnit, part biological, part machine, engineered to serve as security on contracts. Until I read a review somewhere and realized it was actually 100% for me. I took one look at the title and subtitle and assumed it was some sort of ridiculous robot apocalypse or AI-driven military fiction book. All Systems Red, the first Murderbot book, was showing up in my recommendations for a long time before I actually read it.

Bram Stoker's Dracula by Roy Thomas5/28/2023 As well as being the only comic adaptation of Bram Stoker's Dracula, the graphic novel was the acclaimed artist's final work before he moved onto Hellboy. Like his other renowned works, Mignola's adaptation of Bram Stoker's Dracula contains his unique style of artwork and eye for composition. Mignola is known for his work on the likes of Batman: Gotham by Gaslight, B.P.R.D. At over 200 pages, writer Roy Thomas attempts to include as much as possible from Bram Stoker When a young woman comes down with a mysterious illness that is determined to be caused by a vampire bite, a group of her friends band together to avenge her by killing the vampire, Count Dracula, who’s attempting to establish a new home (and feeding. "Despite the fact that I was doing a movie adaptation (which has it’s own unique set of problems) I think there is some nice drawing and storytelling in here. "I’m generally not a fan of my older work (pretty huge understatement there) but I think this one holds up," he added. No idea how you did it but very glad you did." People have been asking about this one for ages - more than any other book of mine - and I honestly didn’t think it was ever going to be possible to see an edition, but here it is," Mignola said in a statement. “I cannot tell you what a relief it is to have this book back in print. How everything can collapse5/28/2023 But collapse is not the end - it's the beginning of our future. Collapse is the horizon of our generation. Today, utopia has changed sides: it is the utopians who believe that everything can continue as before, while realists put their energy into making a transition and building local resilience. In so doing they provide a valuable guide that will help everyone make sense of the new and potentially catastrophic situation in which we now find ourselves. They examine the scientific evidence and show how its findings, often presented in a detached and abstract way, are connected to people's ordinary experiences - joining the dots, as it were, between the Anthropocene and our everyday lives. In this important book, Pablo Servigne and Raphaël Stevens confront these issues head-on. Yet we now have a great deal of evidence to suggest that we are up against growing systemic instabilities that pose a serious threat to the capacity of human populations to maintain themselves in a sustainable environment. What if our civilization were to collapse? Not many centuries into the future, but in our own lifetimes? Most people recognize that we face huge challenges today, from climate change and its potentially catastrophic consequences to a plethora of socio-political problems, but we find it hard to face up to the very real possibility that these crises could produce a collapse of our entire civilization.
